Smoky Maple Sausage Gravy

Smoky Maple Sausage Gravy

SAUCE ON

Ingredients

2 lbs ground breakfast sausage

1 stick of butter

1 yellow onion

1 tbsp garlic powder

5 garlic cloves

1 tbsp smoked paprika

1 tbsp hot sauce

2 tbsp maple syrup

1/2 cup flour

1/2 cup chopped chives (set aside 1 tbsp for topping)

2 cups whole milk

5 sage leaves fresh

1 tbsp liquid smoke

2 tsp black pepper

2 tsp salt



Preparation

1.

Chop up onion, garlic, chives and sage. Set Aside.

2.

To a Dutch oven over medium heat add sausage. Brown sausage until cooked through. Using a slotted spoon, remove cooked sausage and set aside. Leave in sausage fat and browned bits.

3.

To the sausage bits and fat, add butter. Bring to a simmer until butter is completely melted. Add in onion and garlic. Cook for 5 minutes. Add sage and cook for another 5 minutes.

4.

Add flour to create a roux. Cook for 5 minutes until fully mixed in and there are no lumps. Slowly add whole milk and stir until desired consistency is reached.

5.

After gravy consistency is reached, add garlic powder, smoked paprika, hot sauce, maple syrup and liquid smoke. Stir.

6.

Add in the cooked sausage, chives, salt and pepper.

7.

Put on buttermilk biscuits and top with chives!!
